John Allen Metheny, Sr., was a member of the Hartly Volunteer Fire Company. He served as President and Chief of the company, was a past President of the Kent County Volunteer Firemen's Association and active member of the National Volunteer Fire Council. J. Allen Metheny, Sr. is a member of the Delaware Volunteer Firefighter's Association Hall of Fame.
