Charles is currently a member of the Dover Fire Department. He serves on the Life Safety, and Health and Wellness committees.
Charles Boyer has served the Robbins Hose Company of Dover in the capacity as Secretary, Vice President, President, Board of Director, 1st, 2nd, 3rd Assistant Chief and as Fire Chief. He is currently serving as a delegate and has also served as Secretary, Director, 2nd Vice President, 1st Vice President and President of the Kent County Volunteer Firemen’s Association. He has served as Secretary, 2nd Vice President, First Vice President and President of the Delaware State Fire Chief's Association. Charles has served as the Delaware Director for the Eastern Division of the International Association of Fire Chiefs. He has been awarded the Delaware Volunteer Firefighter’s Association Fireman of the Year and was inducted into the Delaware Volunteer Firefighter's Association Hall of Fame. He was an instructor at the Delaware State Fire School for 32 years, retiring from teaching in 2002. During his fire service career, Charles has over 2,500 hours of training and 4,500 hours of fire service activity with Robbins Hose Company, where he was a top 10 responder for many years. Mr. Boyer was the Robbins Hose Company Firefighter of the Year in 2011. In 1984, he received the Governor's Award for Bravery & Heroism as well as a certificate from the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW for Personal Courage, Highest Praise, Alertness and Ever Efficient Guardianship of Life and Property. In 2012, he was also acknowledged by the Kent County Levy Court, the City of Dover, the Town of Smyrna and the Robbins Hose Company for 54 years of service, his election as DVFA President, which was the first for Robbins Hose since 1932. His father, Ralph H. Boyer, was a President Emeritus of the Delaware Volunteer Firefighter's Association, making the Boyer family the second father and son Presidents of the organization.
