While responding to the alarm, Past Chief Engineer and Ambulance Captain Clifford Whaley, died of a heart attack. He was found slumped over the wheel of his truck as he attempted to respond to the fire station.

Firefighter John S. Wadsley served with Truck Company #3. He suffered a heart attack while attending fire school and died and died three days later in Delaware Hospital. Firefighter Wadsley was 42 years old. Wadsley was survived by his wife, Olive M (Wertz) Wadsley and his mother Mary E. Wadsley.

Lieutenant James Goode, Jr, an 18 year veteran of the Wilmington Fire Department was found unresponsive at Station 2. June 19, 1990. Attempts to revive Lt. Goode were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at Wilmington Hospital shortly after 7 a.m. Surviving the Lieutenant are his wife Marlene, son Anthony and his mother Naomi L. Goode.
