Boyles, 69, of the Volunteer Hose Company of Middletown was a firefighter and EMT. On July 23, 1959, Boyles was driving the Middletown ambulance, headed north on US 13 on an emergency transport, when a tractor trailer struck the emergency vehicle. Cecilia came upon a vehicle that had spun out of control and was attempting to render assistance to the occupant when she was struck by a passing vehicle. Charles L. Jones, aged 51, Fire Chief of the Elsmere Fire Company and sitting President of the Delaware Volunteer Firefighter's Association died from a heart attack the morning after a fire in Bear, Delaware where a family of 5 had perished. Mr. Jones was serving his 28th consecutive year as Chief of the Elsmere Fire Company. He was survived by his wife Ella and his mother, Ms. Katie Jones.
